1980s
As the "Trente Glorieuses" – France's 30-year post-war period of economic growth and prosperity - come to an end, so do the boom years for the engineering profession. In a tougher economic climate, SAFEGE continues to work on projects in Tunisia, Gabon and Asia - and in France, where notable achievements include the Strasbourg wastewater treatment plant, impact assessments for bypass roads in the mountainous Massif Central, and a stormwater management study for Clermont-Ferrand.
During this period only a third of the company's business is generated in the home market, while its international operations gain further momentum. With the creation of specialist professional computer tools, another highlight of the decade, a process of transformation has begun.
