TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO THE PHNOM PENH WATER SUPPLY AUTHORITY
  | | Since 1992, Safege has worked in close collaboration with Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority (PPWSA), for which it has carried out numerous studies and technical assistance and construction supervision assignments. Initially the emphasis was on rebuilding a system left devastated after years of civil war, with efforts concentrated on the rehabilitation of the distribution system, reducing losses and establishing a reliable customer management system. The next step was to improve and expand the production and treatment facilities and to build the pipelines needed to improve the supply of water to a city of one and a half million people and its burgeoning urban fringe communities. Today Safege continues to work with the PPWSA with the aim of expanding the system and improving the quality of the service. All the indicators are positive: with the ratio of water sold to water produced up from 8% in 1992 to 93% in 2007 - a virtually unprecedented leap - and bill collection topping 99%, PPWSA is often cited as one of the best managed water companies in Asia. |
WATER SUPPLY MASTER PLAN FOR JAKARTA

Safege has been involved in the development of Jakarta's water supply system for over two decades now. In 2006 and 2007, we prepared a new update of the master plan for operators Thames Pam Jaya and Palyja (SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT subsidiary), the companies holding the concession for water services for this city of more than 10 million people.
The study included a comprehensive review of the projects undertaken by the two operators since the start of operations in 1998, a comparison of actual performance against targets agreed in the concession contracts, and the development of the capital investment programme up to 2012 with the aim of increasing production and improving distribution in line with coverage and quality of service targets. Proposals were also developed for the period 2008 to 2023 with a view to increasing supply sources – an issue that is set to become critical in the coming years and that threatens to undermine the city's growth potential.
The master plan was finalised in 2007 and is currently in the process of implementation.
