Based in Algiers, the Algeria Division spearheads operations and business development activities throughout the country. Created in 2004, the Division has more than quadrupled its turnover and currently generates about a third of SAFEGE's international turnover, approximately €10 m.
Most of its activities concern the company's core business lines, general engineering studies and project management services in the water and wastewater sectors: feasibility and planning studies, assessments and master plans, design and supervision of the construction of water distribution systems, reservoirs, pumping stations, sanitation systems, wastewater treatment plants and water conveyance channels. A noteworthy feature of SAFEGE's operations in Algeria is the size of the projects: the biggest contract exceeds €10 million and the smallest is worth more than €1 million.
With over 100 engineers, experts and support staff, the Algeria Division operates through a network of local offices. SAFEGE Algeria, a company incorporated under Algerian law with its registered office in Algiers, constitutes the Division's permanent head office and oversees various representative offices set up for periods of two to three years to undertake a single project. In 2010, SAFEGE had project offices in Setif, Jijel, Annaba, Ouargla and Ghardaia.
SAFEGE Algeria's management team maintains close and permanent ties with officials in the Ministry of water resources, a department with oversight for several SAFEGE clients (Algérienne des Eaux, the National office for sewage (ONA), Wilayas hydraulic department (DHW), the National agency for dams and water conveyance (ANBT)), and officials within the Ministry for national development and the environment.
